The Fort Worth Zoo in Texas recently unveiled its newest resident, Moja, marking the first lion cub birth at the facility since 2015. Born in October to parents Saba and Abagabe, Moja started at 2.7 pounds at just 4 days old, and he has now reached a healthy weight of 16 pounds.

Moja currently resides in an off-exhibit area alongside his mother, and the zoo officials are yet to decide on the date for his public debut. The playful cub is already engaging in learning activities, often found pouncing and playing with his mother, as shared in a heartwarming Facebook post by the zoo.

To enhance the genetic diversity of the pride, the zoo introduced Jabulani, Saba, and the female lion Abagabe in 2012. The addition of Moja to the lion family is a significant step in the zoo’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the conservation of African lions, which are categorized as a threatened species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List.
